Trip to Cape Town
Greg worked on an FPSO for 2007 and 2008 in Singapore.  It's the world's first drilling FPSO (or FDPSO).  It is sailing to the French Congo and Greg sailed from Singapore to Cape Town, a little more than 5500 miles.  Here is the map with the waypoints.

Here is the detail for getting out of the Straits of Malacca:

Here is the last charted position, in the Cape of Good Hope on the 24rd of February.

January 24, 2009:  The ship leaves the quay at Keppel Benoi shipyard.  Photos

January 27, 2009:  The ship is currently at the West Singapore anchorage and Greg is travelling back and forth to the ship every day from Keppel Benoi.  Greg takes the crew boat every day out of Keppel Benoi.  Photos

January 28, 2009:  Singapore Navy is very active.  Photos

January 31, 2009:  Greg has moved on board this morning and expected departure is tomorrow.  He left that afternoon for some printer cartridges as it became apparent that we weren't leaving Sunday morning.

February 1, 2009:  Greg is back on board and it looks good for a Monday morning departure.  Currently finishing loading supplies and ballasting.

February 2, 2009:  The anchor was finally raised at 18:30 and the Azurite is underway.  Currently in the Straits of Malacca.  Photos

February 3, 2009:  We woke up Southwest of Melaka, Malaysia on a hazy grey morning.  The traffic was fairly heavy here in the superhighway of shipping.  Lots of small fishing boats and large freighters and tankers.  The pilots went off this evening.  Photos

February 4, 2009:  We woke up Southwest of Georgetown and Penang.  During the day, we stopped briefly to secure a pipe.  The evening is beautiful and the first chance to get a good look at the stars.  We're leaving the Straits of Malacca at this point.

February 5, 2009:  We turned the last waypoint before Mauritius so we'll be on the same leg for the next 9-11 days.  We'll cross the equator in a few days as well.  We're into the Indian Ocean at this point and likely out of communication for a few days.

February 6, 2009:  More smooth sailing on the Indian Ocean.

February 7, 2009:  SE of Sri Lanka.  We crossed the Equator after dark.  To celebrate, a bar b que was organized.  Neptune and his helpers showed up to escort a fresh batch of polywogs on their journey to becoming a shellback.  Good food and quite a mess at the end.  The moon is nearing full and the sunset was quite brilliant.  We might be out of communication for a few days starting tomorrow until we get near Mauritius (February 14 - 15).  Photos  There were also a couple photos on the bridge of the moment of crossing.  Photos

February 8, 2009:  SSE of Sri Lanka.  Continue to enjoy good weather and calm seas.  Weather outlook for the next week is good and the tropical depression at Madagascar is breaking up and moving South. The dire predictions of losing communication came true. The Captain was out playing with his sextant.  Photos

February 9, 2009:  South of Sri Lanka.  We've picked up some wind on the bow and had some squalls overnight and today.  The seas are up to 2 meters.  Sylvain spotted some interesting clouds and wanted some photos.  Photos

February 10, 2009:  ESE of Diego Garcia.  The weather has gotten more flat, we're making 12 knots and there were flying fish and a double rainbow coming out of the moon pool in the small afternoon showers.  More photos on the bridge of Janusz.  More Photos

February 11, 2009:  South of Diego Garcia.  The weather is sunny, the sea flat, making 12 knots.

February 12, 2009:  Three days NE of Mauritius.  Another beautiful day.  Sunny, flat seas, rolling swells.

February 13, 2009:  Two days ENE of Mauritius.  One large afternoon rain on the ship and the Southern Cross off the Port Bridge wing at night.  Photos and More Photos

February 14, 2009:  Valentines day at sea with 120+ guys.  Nice weather, beautiful stars tonight.

February 15, 2009:  We woke up just off the coast of Mauritius (photos). The closest we've been to land since the Straits of Malacca so of course the weather didn't cooperate and there was quite a bit of clouds and rain.  Passed by Reunion as well but couldn't see any of that island.  Barbqued for the kitchen staff for dinner.  The beef was excellent.  Photos

February 16, 2009:  SE of Madagascar.  Another beautiful day and the stars at night were perfect.  Photos

February 17, 2009:  South of Madagascar.  Yet another perfect day.  Speed picked up quite a bit.

February 18, 2009:  Just South of the Mozambique Channel.  Very calm seas, sunshine and smooth sailing.  Hunting the ocean for the internet.  Photo's with the Captain.

February 19, 2009:  Geoff's birthday.  East of South Africa.

February 20, 2009:  Off the Coast of South Africa.  Photos

February 21, 2009:  South and East of South Africa.  Testing the firewater system and have encountered our first rough seas.  Photos

February 22, 2009:  No one gets out of the Cape without a good jolt.  A messy day from a weather standpoint.  Photos.

February 23, 2009:  A beautiful sunny day with the wind and waves from behind.  Greg saw a sea turtle.  Photos of other stuff, he didn't have his camera for the turtle.

February 24, 2009:  Mardi Gras.  Woke up this morning on the approach to Cape Town.  Photos  Then Greg got off the ship and took more photos.  Celebrated Mardi Gras at Cubana's in Cape Town.

February 25, 2009:  Stayed in the V&A Harbor in Cape Town.  Photos.  Met people from the ship at Quay 4 and then partied late with the drillers.  Photos
